Common Practices

Identity Providers and Service Providers can join GRENA Identity Federation by contacting Federation Operator Georgian Research and Educational Networking Association (GRENA).
Applicant should confirm acceptance of the Federation Policy documents and established procedures. Approval of application is done by the GRENA Executive Board consisting of representatives of major Georgian universities, Georgian National Academy of Sciences and Open Society Georgia Foundation. There is no cost related with the participation to GIF.

Entrance to the federation do not imply the publication of metadata to interfederation aggregators; entities that wish to be published can explicitly request to do so.

Practices on Identity Provider Registration

Any Georgian education or research institution can become Identity Provider; only one Identity Provider per institution is allowed.

For an Identity Provider to join GIF, the following requirements must be met:
 completed membership service agreement signed by official representative of the institution;
 provide description of their identity management practices;
 provide technical and administrative contact information;
 elements and attributes to be registered must use a domain name of that institution.

The administrators appointed by the institution would then get an access to the Metadata Manager service where they would upload the metadata of their IdP.

After the approval, the Federation Operator publishes and maintains the federation's metadata.

Subsequent changes to these elements and attributes do not require re-approval by the Federation Operator. Only, administrators appointed by the institution can modify the IdP specific information.

For interfederation, the entity must ask the Federation Operator to publish it for participation in eduGAIN.

Practices on Service Provider Registration

Any organisation may apply to join GRENA Identity Federation as a Service Provider as long as the services provided promote the academic, research and educational work.

For a Service Provider to join GIF, the following requirements must be met:
 completed membership service agreement signed by official representative of the service provider;
 provide description of the service;
 provide technical and administrative contact information;
 elements and attributes to be registered must use a domain name of that service provider.

The administrators appointed by the Service Provider would then get an access to the Metadata Manager service where they would upload the metadata of the their Service.

After the approval, the Federation Operator publishes and maintains the federation's metadata.

Subsequent changes to these elements and attributes do not require re-approval by the Federation Operator. Only, administrators appointed by the Service Provider can modify the service specific information.

For interfederation, the entity must ask the Federation Operator to publish it for participation in eduGAIN.
